Australian footwear company, Windsor Smith, has capitalised on the recent resurgence of 90s-inspired, chunky, 'ugly' sneakers.
The brand currently boasts over five different styles of the shoes, which feature heavily on the Windsor Smith Instagram account.
According to Windsor Smith designer, Sarah Schultz, the 90s trend is proving to be a hit with the brand's Instagram following, with the video content surrounding the sneakers garnering big engagement numbers.
“We have had a phenomenal reaction to our 90s inspired sneaker styles including Lord, Lupe, Manon, Carte and Seoul.
“The video content created around our social media campaigns generated significant engagement, with our Lupe sneaker gathering 117k views and just under 300 comments on Instagram.”
According to Schultz, Windsor Smith is expecting the trend to stick around for a while longer.
“The 90s trend is ingrained in [Windsor Smith's] DNA and sneakers have already become a permanent staple in our customers wardrobe so we don’t see this trend going anywhere any time soon.
“We recently saw this trend take hold after several strong apparel seasons which embraced the nostalgic look of the 90s – it makes sense that it is now having a revival in footwear.
“Statement making sneakers were iconic of the 90s but it has been particularly inspiring to see the cool and effortless way celebrities and social media influencers are interpreting the return of the trend this time around,” she said.
Schultz said that Windsor Smith will continue experimenting with the 90s trend, introducing new styles to the line in time for summer.
“With the success of our 90s inspired sneakers, we are very excited to inject pops of colour into the sneaker range, as well as launch more key styles of this era including flatform sandals and platform pool slides to take [us] into high summer.”
