Target Australia has had to recall batches of its men's Piping Hot 'Wave' thongs after they were found to not meet Target's quality standards.
The faulty batches' sole surface may present a slip hazard and eight codes from both colourways – navy and orange and black and blue – have been named in the faulty list.
Target is encouraging customers to stop wearing the thongs and return them to a Target or Target Country store as soon as possible for a full refund.
In 2017, Target Australia conducted a review of its quality standards and updated its apparel design and construction safety standards.
In a statement at the time, Target said that it trained all Target Australia Sourcing (TAS) footwear suppliers to heighten the awareness of its new safety standards.
“A complete review of Target’s quality strategy was undertaken with a focus on production processes and controls to deliver consistent quality to Target’s customers.
“Following updates to Target’s apparel design and construction safety standards, training was conducted for all TAS childrenswear and footwear suppliers to improve product safety awareness with ongoing auditing and controls in place.
“Target takes an active approach to ensuring that its products are of the highest safety standards, comply with the very latest legal requirements, and meet customer expectations.”
