Munro Footwear Group's Mollini label has unveiled its first collaboration capsule collection with Byron Bay influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews.
The 10-piece capsule collection was created with Matthews' 200,000+ followers in mind, but encountered some COVID-19 bumps in the road during production.
Conceptualised as an autumn/winter 2020 range to coincide with festival season, original plans were shelved when the initial COVID-19 outbreak delayed overseas production and led to the cancellation of all Australian festivals for the year.
Further impacted by border restrictions, Mollini utilised digital communication tools during the design and production phase, relying on Zoom meetings and emails not only with factories but with Matthews too.
The business opted to send swatches and samples directly to Matthews for approval, while production was focused on minimal waste, with the limited-run designs made to last.
Overcoming the border and communication challenges, the collection is now being launched ahead of summer, as Australia's COVID-19 restrictions ease and Aussies begin dressing up for the festive season.
"I have worn Mollini shoes since I was a young girl," Matthews said of the collaboration.
"It’s kind of surreal to be able to make a shoe with them that I love and feel so passionately about," she said.
The collection spans five key styles in two colourways each: a woven mule, a kitten-heeled thong, a wraparound heel, a casual flatform thong and a sporty casual slide.
The collection's colour palette features classic neutral tones including black, khaki, camel and tan.
The Mollini x Ruby Tuesday Matthews collection is available now on the Mollini website and retails for between $169.95-$229.95.
