Australian footwear sales have managed to remain strong in the face of another blow to Australian retail figures, which declined through March.
The seasonally adjusted estimate rose for footwear and other personal accessory retailing by 1.4% but fell by -0.1% for clothing retailing.
Over the course of March, seasonally adjusted retail spending fell 0.1% to $25.63 billion, following on from the earlier 0.2% drop in February.
However clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing rose by 0.4% seasonally adjusted.
The recent NAB Online Retail Sales Index also revealed that online sales for fashion had rebounded following the decline in February, growing by 0.8%.
NAB group chief economist Alan Oster said the bank estimated that the Australian online retail market was worth $22.23 billion in the 12 months up to March 2017.
Oster also said that most states across Australia had seen strong online sales growth throughout March, except South Australia and ACT.
