New Zealand-born footwear brand Allbirds has unveiled its latest Merino wool sneaker - the Wool Piper.
The sneaker is Allbirds' take on the classic cupsole skate shoe and is made from breathable Merino wool, Allbirds' sugarcane -based SweetFoam in the midsole and a castor bean oil-based insole.
Revealing the Wool Pipers on its social media, Allbirds said that the shoe is the natural evolution of a classic style.
"Meet the Wool Piper—a throwback-inspired shoe that treads lighter on the planet.
"Made with ZQ certified merino wool and sugarcane, it twists simple lines, exaggerated details, and a cosy embroidered collar into the natural evolution of a timeless look," the business said.
The shoe's carbon footprint is 7.1kg carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO2e) compared to a standard sneaker which has 12.5kg CO2e according to Allbirds.
However, Allbirds' offsets the Wool Piper's emissions to zero by using a combination of sustainable practices and carbon credits, making it carbon neutral.
The Wool Pipers are available now on the Allbirds website and retail for $160.
