Off the back of its recent April Fool's campaign with ME Bank, Volley has launched a new – and legitimate – mullet shoe.

Yes you read that correctly.

And no, this is not a delayed April Fool's prank.

As part of a new partnership with The Black Dog Institute, Volley has launched a brand-new Heritage High-Top style that sports a detachable mullet, to raise funds for the Institute's Mullets for Mental Health initiative.

Shifting the focus from the silliest day of the year to a more serious topic, Volley's mullet shoe aims spark conversations about men's mental health.

According to the Black Dog Institute, one in five Australians will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year.

With the hopes to reduce these numbers, the Mullets for Mental Health campaign works to get Aussies talking about their mental health and raises funds to support the Black Dog Institute's work.

100% of profits of Volley's mullet shoe will be donated to Black Dog Institute to support the organisation's educational programs, research, digital tools, apps, and services for people of all ages.

"We have been so overwhelmed with the support for our Mullets for Mental Health fundraiser and now to have a Volley shoe with a mullet attached as a way of raising additional funds for mental health, we are absolutely stoked," Black Dog Institute senior manager of partnerships Tasman Cassim said.

The partnership is set to be one that continues past the Mullets for Mental Health campaign, with Volley set to continue its support of the organisation.

Volley Australia GM John Szwede said the past two years have had a serious impact on the mental health of its customers, young Aussies.

"Many young people work in spaces most affected by the pandemic: events, hospitality and retail, creating great struggles they hadn’t previously faced.

"Volley is honoured to have joined forces with Black Dog Institute to create this mullet masterpiece.

"We feel that partnering with the Institute, particularly for the Mullets for Mental Health campaign, allows us to instil our light-hearted, larrikin spirit into a difficult topic to broach, making it less daunting and easier to spark conversation.

"We want people to be interactive with their mullet Volleys – cut them, dye them, braid them and most importantly, wear them.

"We look forward to continuing this relationship with Black Dog Institute ongoing and we hope to create something truly unique and special for our audience and beyond," he said.

The Volley Mullet shoe is available for pre-order now on the Volley website.

The shoe retails for $84.99 and is scheduled for release on April 15 2022.
