The Australian designers behind new digital printed board short brand Venroy have captured the attention of retailers in Japan and Canada.

Young Sydney talent Theo Smallbone, who is the brother of Australian designer Ruby Smallbone, and Sean Venturi recently launched their brand that specialises in tailored board shorts with unique detailing and digital printed graphics.

The design duo, who say their new spring/summer collection is inspired by nostalgic holidays and the glamorous Los Angeles poolside culture, use nine different Japanese Juki machines to construct one design.

As well as securing several new stockists across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, a chain of 10 Canadian department stores, called Simons, will also stock Venroy from April next year.

Seven Japanese Oshman stores will feature the board shorts and the designers are planning on expanding their distribution to Europe and New Zealand soon.

“We have been collecting board shorts since our teenage years and discovered that there was a gap in the market for fashionable, affordable and durable board shorts,” Smallbone said.

“The shorts can withstand sun, chlorine and salt damage, offering something new for the global market.”

The shorts feature two deep-side pockets for keys, triple chain-lock stitching, flexible waistband, quick dry peach face polyester and vibrant contrasting lining.

Digital prints such as wood and pool tiles through to symmetric Egyptian symbols feature in the range.

Prints are created using an intricate sublimation process where graphics are converted from dye to gas and bound straight to quick dry peach face polyester.

“Men want to wear multi-purpose board shorts in the sun, beach, pool or bar and keep them on from day to night”, Venturi said.

The designers recently showcased at the Project Vegas trade show and they have since been liaising with new stockists from the USA.

Prices range from $89-$99 and Venroy's online boutique will open from mid October.
