Second-hand fashion retailer Uturn has launched its own digital marketplace after 44 years as a retailer across Sydney.
The recent move comes after Uturn opened its seventh and eighth store in the Sydney region.
The marketplace will allow consumers to buy and sell fashion Australia-wide, with over 17,000 items available to shop at launch.
"Since founding Uturn in 1980, we’ve been at the forefront of Australia’s circular economy, providing innovative solutions to the country’s growing clothing waste crisis,” Turun managing director Alex Dimou said. “Uturn has been a pioneer in this space, tackling the issue head-on and moving faster than policy to meet both consumer and environmental needs.
“We’re excited to launch our digital platform, taking Uturn nationwide for the first time. Now the signature Uturn experience, rooted in our community-first ethos, can be enjoyed by customers anywhere in Australia.”
To celebrate the launch, Uturn Marketplace will offer 30 per cent off all products listed by The Turn and Uturn, alongside zero commission for sellers for the next three months.
Key labels being sold across the platform include Camilla and Marc, Zimmermann, Aje, Bassike, Oroton and Gorman, as well as heritage and vintage designers such as Lisa Ho, Alannah Hill, Dion Lee and Josh Goot.
According to Uturn, the business prevents over 8,000 tonnes of clothing and accessories from entering landfill every year, totalling over 200,000 tonnes since the company was founded in 1980.
According to a study by the Australian Fashion Council, Australians produce 383,000 tonnes of clothing waste annually.
