Japanese global apparel retailer UNIQLO will open its first-ever store in the Australian Capital Territory on October 26 at the Canberra Centre.

It will be the Japanese brand’s 34th store in Australia and will recruit 66 new team members - two of which are existing team members transferring.

The new 1,210 square metre store will offer the brand’s complete range of its ‘LifeWear’ apparel for men, women, kids and babies, as well as its latest 23 Spring/Summer range.

It will also include a dedicated space to the Uniqlo graphic t-shirt brand ‘UT’, a collection of graphic tees commemorating pop culture, key moments or global icons.

The store will be fitted out with 12 fitting rooms and six self-check-out machines.

Uniqlo Australia CEO Fuminori Adachi commended the store team for getting the store ready for opening day.

“We know that all great things take time, and after receiving many requests and support from the community, we are so pleased to share that we are finally opening a store in the Canberra Centre,” Adachi said.

As part of the store opening, the Canberra Centre team will also be providing local charity, Roundabout Canberra, with second-hand clothing collected through the store’s Re.Uniqlo donation point. All clothing donations will go towards families in need in the Canberra region.

The Uniqlo Canberra Centre store will open at 10am on October 26, followed by an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and a Japanese taiko drumming performance. Uniqlo will provide cake pops, as well as a free gift bag to the first 200 customers who spend $100 or more.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming the ACT’s first Uniqlo store,” Canberra Centre general manager Gary Stewart said.

“The introduction of this much awaited global retailer is already generating great excitement amongst our local community and represents another landmark in Canberra Centre’s ongoing evolution.”
