Uniqlo has announced that it will launch a range of facemasks on its website and across its Australian store network from next week.

The apparel retailer has developed the 'Airism Mask' following widespread customer demand for a mask that is suitable for daily use during COVID-19.

The triple-layered, non-medical mask helps to block bacteria, virus-contaminated particles and pollen.

The centre layer of the mask features a filter that delivers a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99% (initial value) and can be washed up to 20 times at 40 degrees while maintaining bacterial filtration efficiency of 95%.

In a statement Uniqlo said that it will continue to improve on the design of the mask in response to customer feedback.

"Uniqlo decided to launch its mask internationally following a release in Japan in June, which proved wildly popular from the first day it went on sale.

"This outstanding response reflected the excellent performance and feel of the Airism fabric and strong consumer confidence in the Uniqlo brand.

"Today a mask has become an indispensable item to lead a healthy life and Uniqlo aims to offer its mask as part of the LifeWear concept of helping people enhance their daily lives.

"Even after the introduction of the first product, [we] will continue to maximise customer feedback and improve the quality and functionality of the mask," the business said.

The Airism Masks will be retailed in a pack of three at $19.90 at all Uniqlo Australia stores and on the retailer's website.

The facemasks come in three sizes, small, medium and large and two colours, black and white.

The masks will launch in all Australian stores from September 15 – except Perth which will see the masks launch on September 16.
