Red Cross shops are looking for fashion partners with a social conscience.

The charity organisation is appealing to clothing retailers to help the less fortunate by donating excess inventory.

Red Cross Shops sourcing manager Sophia Marsh said the organisation is in need of stock.

"Red Cross Shops currently rescue 450 tonnes of clothing from landfill each year and we want to double that.

"Unrecovered textiles currently account for 4% of total waste in Australian landfills.

"Donating clothes to Red Cross Shops can both reduce waste and benefit the community.

"We want to divert textiles waste away from landfill by increasing clothing recycling.

"I want fashion businesses, wholesalers, retailers, suppliers and distributors to think about the environmental impact of dumping unwanted clothing.

"We want their stock!

"Supporting a charity partner such as Red Cross benefits everyone.”

She said last season’s fashions can fund a phone call to check on elderly people living alone, seconds clothing into hot meals for young homeless people or end of line stock into clean drinking water for someone affected by a disaster.
