The Australian Fashion Council (AFC) Curated Program has launched its first curated retail space at The Calile Hotel in Brisbane.

It features a rotating collection of independent Australian fashion labels running from November 6 until December 23.

The designers featured will be Lois Hazel, Salty Fox, Nico, Ivy Niu, Gloria Dulcie and A.BCH with Mndatory.

The AFC's curated industry mentor Jenny Layton said the program helps to shape businesses in a constantly changing landscape.

“I think Curated is so unique, and so meant to be, and so necessary for this industry.

“The seed that is being sown now is something that can work with businesses, and help shape them in what is an evolving landscape.”

AFC Curated launched in 2017 to support local emerging labels on their journey to become robust and sustainable businesses.

As part of the program, labels participate in direct industry mentoring, a series of business development workshops and retail activations.

“The fact that Curated is connected an industry body is probably key.

“When you get people with a lot of wisdom and experience, and then you add in creatives with a lot of passion, and talent, you've got a melting pot,” Layton said.

AFC CEO David Giles-Kaye said the program helps to bring a new wave of designers into the industry.

“Curated is bringing the new wave of designers into the sector.

“We're a creative industry so it's absolutely critical for our future that we have new, exciting and energetic people coming through and establishing businesses or going into existing businesses.

“One of the best ways for this to happen is by helping and nurturing emerging designers.”
