The operations manager of a supermarket chain will run discount department store Target, following the shock exit of Dene Rogers.
Rogers' resignation was announced today, following 18 months at the helm of Target Australia.
Parent company Wesfarmers has appointed the head of operations at its Coles supermarket business, Stuart Machin, to lead the store.
Wesfarmers said Rogers resigned for personal reasons so he could pursue
other opportunities.
Prior to joining Coles, Machin worked at British supermarket giants Sainsbury and Tesco.
Machin has been Coles' stores and development operations director
since 2008.
Wesfarmers MD Richard Goyder said he was instrumental in the
development and roll out of new stores during Coles's five year
turnaround plan.
"He has impressed everyone with his capacity to develop a successful,
enthusiastic team with a strong focus on outstanding execution in
stores, he said.
Goyder thanked Rogers for initiating changes to Target's online business and supply chain.
