The Sussan Group, which owns and operates Sussan, Sportsgirl and Suzanne Grae - has signed on as a foundation member of Australian Fashion Council’s (AFC) product stewardship scheme, Seamless.

The Seamless scheme aims to make Australia’s fashion industry circular by 2030. Being part of the scheme involves adding a 4 cent per garment levy, which goes towards funding a variety of solutions in circularity.

Group retail CEO Rebecca Hard said Sussan Group will join fellow foundation members David Jones, Big W, Rip Curl, RM Williams, Lorna Jane and The Iconic.

“Together we are working towards shaping a sustainable future for the fashion industry,” Hard said.

Solutions that the Seamless scheme will identify and pursue include incentivising durable and sustainable clothing design, fostering new circular business models such as re-use and repair, expanding clothing collection and sorting, and consumer behaviour shifts.

“The Sussan Group is looking forward to helping shape the conversation and recommendations for the proposed scheme,” Hard said. “We are excited to be working alongside our Seamless partners on potential solutions to solve the issue of textile waste.”

Seamless was created by a consortium led by the AFC with Charitable Recycling Australia, Queensland University of Technology, Sustainable Resource Use and WRAP Asia Pacific.
