The Paris 2024 Australian Olympic Team uniforms were unveiled at a ceremony event in Clovelly this morning, with Sportscraft leading the apparel design while Volley supplied the footwear.
It marks 100 days before the Opening Ceremony in Paris.
This is the tenth time that Sportscraft has designed the apparel for Australia’s Olympic athletes. Nine athletes unveiled the official formal uniforms today at the ceremony event.
The women will wear a green double-breasted linen blazer, with a choice of a tee or tank made from cotton, both featuring gold and green ribbing. They will also have the option to select between wearing a chino short or an ombre pleated skirt.
The men will wear a single-breasted linen blazer over a tee, paired with a stretch chino short made from a cotton/nylon/elastane blend.
The jacket inner lining on both men’s and women’s blazers feature every Australian Olympic gold medallist from the first Summer Olympics in Athens 1896 to Tokyo 2020, and for the first time the blazers feature the Australian Olympians’ Oath embroidered on the inside pocket of each athletes’ blazer at heart level.
Also for the first time, Sportscraft featured Indigenous artwork in the Olympic Opening Ceremony uniform, with Olympic boxer Paul Fleming’s ‘Walking Together’ and Torres Strait artist David Bosun’s “Ngalmun Danalaig” showcased in the scarf, pocket square and as part of the Australian Olympians’ Oath.
Also launching today is the brand’s SUPPORTSCRAFT initiative. A dedicated hub on the Sportscraft website will allow Australians to share messages to Olympians via their social media channels.
“Sportscraft is proud to once again bring quality craftsmanship, the finest materials and authentic Australian designs to dress our sporting heroes for the Olympics, just as we have been outfitting all Australians in their everyday life for 110 years,” APG & Co CEO Elisha Hopkinson said.
“We are excited to take this moment to rally our nation together to support our Olympians through the ‘SUPPORTSCRAFT’ campaign where we hope to lift our athletes even further at the upcoming Paris Games.”
Meanwhile, Volley continues its 12-year partnership with the olympics this year, which began in the 2012 London Olympics.
Ahead of the Olympic Games, Volley will release a limited replica edition of the Closing Ceremony shoe and a slipper boot available only online.
The footwear was revealed today and will be worn by members of the Australian Olympic Team for the first time at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on July 26.
“Volley sneakers have stood the test of time for 85 years,” Brand Collective CEO David Thomas said. “We are honoured to be entrusted with capturing the spirit of the Games for the Australian Olympic Team.
“Crafting shoes for both the opening and closing ceremonies is not just about style; it's about encapsulating the pride, unity and legacy of our athletes. Our classic Volley sneakers deliver the perfect balance of Australian nostalgia and contemporary fashion to the Australia Olympic Team Uniform.”
Brand Collective manages the Volley brand.
Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team for Paris 2024, Anna Meares, thanked Sportscraft and Volley for the new styles.
“Wearing an Australian Olympic Opening Ceremony uniform is a rare and special moment,” Meares said.
“Thank you to Sportscraft for designing a uniform that will make all of our Olympians in Paris look and feel incredible on the world’s biggest stage.
“I have had the honour of receiving four Australian Olympic Team ceremony uniforms and I treasure each one. For Olympians, it brings us together, from different sports, backgrounds and experiences, proudly uniting us through that Team uniform.
“I love that the Olympians’ oath will sit on the inside lining at heart level for all athletes, with the support of all Australia’s Olympic champions throughout history wrapping around each of our Team members for Paris.”
