South Australian-based national e-tailer Sportitude is closing down its website and has offloaded its assets to RunDNA – another South Australian-based e-tailer.
According to the Sportitude website, RunDNA already has “deep roots” with the sporting e-tailer, and previously with Joggers World which closed down in 2021.
“This merger solidifies RunDNA’s position as the premier running retailer and allows us to not only continue, but enhance our service to the community that has trusted us across three decades."
The website adds that while the Sportitude website will close down, nothing else changes, with RunDNA being managed by the same people.
Sportitude founder Roumen Staykov, however, is moving on after the merger deal, which he confirmed in a LinkedIn post this week.
“After more than 15 years of building and growing Sportitude, the journey has now come to an end - for both the business and for me,” Staykov said.
“What started as an ambitious idea for a social networking platform for grassroots sports, evolved into one of Australia’s leading running-specialty e-commerce businesses, scaling to 8-figure revenue and eventually becoming the # 2 privately-owned e-commerce retailer in our niche.”
Staykov added that he is now currently seeking a new opportunity, and thanked all the people involved with Sportitude for its success.
"It's been a rollercoaster ride, full of challenges, lessons learned, and the constant drive to keep moving forward," he wrote. "But the real success of Sportitude wasn’t just in the growth - it was in the people who rooted for and contributed to Sportitude's success.
"The incredible team, partners, agencies, and customers who shaped our journey, I’m grateful for every one of you. Today’s Super Bowl-winning Eagles coach said it best, 'You can’t be great without the greatness of others'."
Sportitude is one of a few online retailers shutting up shop over the last few months. In late January, Wesfarmers announced it will wind down its Catch business, 19 years after being founded by Gabby and Hezi Leibovich.
Meanwhile, gifting marketplace HardToFind closed down in December 2024 after 16 years running.
