Global eyewear brand Specsavers has been listed as the 8th best workplace in Australia by Great Place To Work.

It was the only retailer to rank in the large business category (1,000+ employees) this year and marks the first time Specsavers has been listed. No large-size retailer was listed in the top 10 in 2022 and 2021.

The ‘Australia’s Best Workplaces’ list is determined through a survey by Great Place To Work, where employees share confidential quantitative and qualitative feedback about their organisation’s culture by responding to 60 statements on a 5-point scale and answering two open-ended questions.

Specsavers MD Paul Bott welcomed the recognition, saying it reflects the dedication of its store partners and team members.

“Specsavers is, and has always been, a company built on great people,” Bott said. “Our vision is to change lives through better sight and hearing, and it is our people who help make the difference to the lives of Australians every day.”

Some of the key factors that were reviewed as part of the culture survey included Specsavers’ ongoing commitment to team development, how it acts through its values and behaviours, its approach to diversity and inclusion, and customer service.

“We are proud of the diverse and inclusive culture that we have nurtured together, where every individual is respected, valued, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work,” Specsavers people director Karen Clancy said. “Every single person at Specsavers has played a part in creating a workplace culture that empowers everyone to be the best versions of themselves.

“This recognition is not just an end in itself, but a stepping stone on our journey to create an environment that fosters continuous growth, learning, and innovation.”

Great Place To Work MD for Australia and New Zealand Roland Wee said employee wellbeing is important in the current market.

“In today’s talent, market businesses need to put their best foot forward to showcase their great workplace culture to retain high-performing employees for the years to come,” Wee said. “Companies who have made it onto this years’ Best Workplaces list are a testament to consistently improving and maintaining their great workplace culture practices.”
