Australian thrift brand Savers has just reopened its Brunswick store in Melbourne’s inner North today, December 21 following 12 months of renovations.
Savers resells items across fashion and household goods in a bid to curb textile waste and to raise funds for community organisations. Savers is said to divert on average over 7 million kilograms of textiles from Australian landfills each year working with its not-for-profit partners.
As well as restocking thousands of fashion and household goods, the new store will feature assisted checkouts.
Savers’ activation manager Danielle Harris said the Brunswick store reopening has been a priority for the company over the past year.
“It’s one of our most popular stores within Victoria and we know that Melburnians have been eagerly awaiting this moment,” Harris said.
The reopened Brunswick store is partnered with Diabetes Victoria, where they help fund research to reduce the impact of diabetes within Victoria. It also partners with Red Nose, a support service for Australians impacted by bereavement and hardships.
Harris said that a community-focused approach is important to the company. She said that Savers pays their not-for-profit partners for all product received at the stores, either via the partners truck routes or its Community Donation Centre.
“When you bring donations into a Savers store, you’re actually donating them to our not-for-profit partners,” Harris said. “We’re incredibly proud of our work supporting these organisations, having paid over $33.5 million to our not-for-profit partners between 2016-2020, and this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our incredible Savers community.”
