Romance Was Born has been named a major winner at the 2017 NSW Creative Achievement Awards.
The Awards, held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, celebrate and reward the outstanding achievements of individuals and businesses that help raise the global profile of NSW creative industries.
NSW parliamentary secretary Ben Franklin said the brand is part of a $2.8 billion industry.
“Creative industries are big business for NSW with services exports worth around $2.8 billion in 2015-16 and the sector a source of employment for some 200,000 people - more than 42% of Australia’s total creative workforce.
“NSW is home to some of the world’s most creative talent and the NSW Creative Achievement Awards shine the spotlight on this industry,” he said.
Romance Was Born design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales won the $15,000 NSW Emerging Creative Talent Award after the judging panel recognised their creative achievements both in Australia and internationally.
“What started off as a small Sydney fashion label has now emerged as a highly regarded Australian fashion house, featured last year in Sax Fifth Avenue’s flagship store in New York, as well as in Paris Fashion Week,” Franklin said.
The judging panel included Carriageworks director Lisa Havilah, Dinosaur Designs founder Louise Olsen, actor Claudia Karvan and Museum of Contemporary Art Australia chair Simon Mordant.
