Romance Was Born, South Sudanese artist Atong Atem and not-for-profit organisation The Social Studio have come together to launch a new collaboration collection.
The capsule collection was created in The Social Studio's Collingwood workshop and features Atem's artwork - which reflects on her walks along Merri Creek during the Melbourne lockdowns.
Taking the artwork as inspiration, Romance Was Born created a capsule collection featuring Atem's print.
Then The Social Studio worked with both artist and designer teams to finalise artwork, fabric, and silhouettes, manufacturing the pieces in its Ethical Clothing Australia-accredited studio.
The Social Studio CEO Dewi Cooke praised the unique initiative.
"This collection has been a joy to work on.
"We feel so privileged to work with Atong’s stunning artwork and Romance Was Born’s dreamy designs to deliver this stunning capsule collection.
"It’s also taken a huge behind-the-scenes effort from within our organisation: from our hardworking production staff led by manager Tara Wingate, to print and event design by creative director Bonnie Mooney to the cheerful dedication of other staff and volunteers, literally all of TSS has worked on bringing this collection to life," she said.
The range will launch at a Melbourne Fashion Festival event on March 20 and will then go on sale to the public on March 22 at 9am.
The Romance Was Born x Atong Atem x The Social Studio collection features the Merri Dress, the Forage Tee, the Macroscopic Oversized Tee and the Walk On Bag.
All proceeds from the collection will go towards supporting the work and education programs The Social Studio runs for refugee and migrant young people.
A banner featuring Atem's print will also be auctioned on Instagram as part of the fundraiser.
The collection is priced between $130 and $400.
