Converse has collaborated with local Sydney artist, Elliott Routledge to paint a mural in Woolloomooloo, Sydney that helps to clean the air.
As part of the brand's 'Converse City Forests' initiative, creatives around the globe have been painting murals using KNOxOUT paint, which uses sunlight to reduce air pollutants, purifying the surrounding air.
KNOxOut paint works by reacting with harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) coming from emissions of motor vehicles, solvents from factories and power plants, and neutralises it through a chemical process.
The NOx are broken down and converted into harmless substances that can be washed away by the next rainfall.
Routledge's mural is located on Cathedral St in Woolloomooloo and absorbs enough air pollutants to plant the equivalent of 183 trees in inner city Sydney.
The design for the Sydney Converse City Forest mural was created in collaboration with Rainforest Rescue and draws inspiration from the fauna and flora of the Daintree, promoting the message that ‘Trees are the Answer.’
Routledge has also designed a range of patches to accompany the mural which will be available to purchase on Converse's website and stores.
All proceeds from the patches will be donated to Rainforest Rescue to help support the protection and restoration of rainforests in Australia.
Converse plans to unveil another Australian mural in inner Melbourne later this year.
