New Zealand-born pre-loved fashion marketplace Designer Wardrobe has officially expanded into Australia, adding to the local re-commerce market.

The fashion platform was founded in 2015 by Donielle Brooke and Aidan Bartlett, and reportedly facilitates around $1.6 million in transactions every month, with over 325,000 members.

Designer Wardrobe will stock local and international brands such as Zimmermann, Rebecca Vallance, Kowtow, Harris Tapper, Prada and Acne Studios, with prices up to 60 per cent off the original RRP.

According to the platform, its inventory available to Australian members has grown to 160,000 listings, and local sellers on average earn $126 per month, with top sellers hitting $3,000 per month.

“We are thrilled to bring Designer Wardrobe to the Australian market at a time when so many are seeking additional income streams and are going for smarter fashion choices,” Designer Wardrobe CEO Aidan Bartlett said.

“We have seen significant growth in our community over the last few years and we are excited to see this momentum continue in Australia. As a trusted platform, with 10 year’s experience, Aussies can now extend the life of pieces they don't reach for, and discover pre-loved pieces at a fraction of the cost of buying new.”

The marketplace has reported a 14 per cent increase in listings since last year and has sold more than 1 million items to date.

Undone Store founder and Designer Wardrobe ambassador Sara Crampton said the timing of the launch in Australia comes at a key moment.

“The exponential growth of the circular economy in recent years is a win-win for buyers, sellers and the environment,” Crampton said.

“Designer Wardrobe gives sellers the opportunity to earn money from pieces they aren’t wearing, an avenue for buyers to shop their favourite brands at a fraction of the retail price, and keeps products in circularity for longer, something that continues to be an important part of the sustainability conversation.”

Accessed online and via an app, the marketplace is regularly updated with new features, recently including new seller addons, artificial intelligence (AI) and an integrated resale widget.
