Myer Chermside in Brisbane’s north has reopened after an extensive store overhaul that commenced last year, with a longer term lease secured.

The refurbishment included new lighting, flooring, fixtures and the removal of many existing walls to open up the store. The entrance was also upgraded, alongside change rooms and customer amenities.

A number of new brands have also been added to the store, including the rollout of Country Road Group brands Trenery, Mimco, Politix and Witchery, alongside Country Road women’s, men’s, kids and home. Other brands include MJ Bale, Brandbank’s new label Unison, American Eagle, Calvin Klein, YD and Sportswear.

Myer originally opened in Chermside in 1959, and announced the refurbishment in March 2022.

Myer Chermside store manager Hayley Tanna said the response from customers since opening last Friday has been positive.

“It really showcases our brands and extensive offering in the best possible way - in a modern, fresh and bright new layout,” Tanna said.

“We had some great activities taking place throughout the store to celebrate the opening and the team loved showing customers through the store as well as some of the fantastic new brands we have on offer.

“[This] demonstrates our ongoing commitment to our loyal customers and the local community.”

The overhaul of the Chermside store comes after the department store closed its Brisbane CBD location after a dispute with the landlord over rent earlier this year. In September this year, Myer CEO John King confirmed the company is searching for a new location in Brisbane CBD.

Tanna joined Chermside’s Chanel counter manager Maria Mahaffey in a ribbon-cutting event to officially reopen the store.\
