Australian leakproof apparel brand Modibodi has launched its first Carbon Neutral Seamfree Full Brief, in line with its mission to be carbon negative by the end of 2023.
Modibodi partnered with Australian start-up C2Zero to help create the new sustainable undergarment. C2Zero enables businesses and consumers to disrupt global Emission Trading Schemes and reduce pollution.
Sarah Forde, Modibodi head of sustainability and public affairs, said that for every pair sold, C2Zero will remove 2.4 kg of carbon dioxide, removing a potential of 10,000 kg of carbon emissions.
“Anyway we can, we are reducing our emissions, through the fabrics we choose, designing for longevity, using sea freight, switching to renewable energy where we can, and ensuring carbon creation and biodiversity is part of our decision-making,” Forde said.
“Partnering with C2Zero helps us take another step towards this goal. We believe one of the most powerful ways we can help drive the change needed in reducing carbon emissions is by taking the emissions allowances big polluters need out of circulation, so they can never be used to pollute.”
The Carbon Neutral Seamfree Full Brief is part of the Modibodi Recycled Seamfree Collection, designed to protect wearers from unexpected leaks.
The Seamfree style adds discretion and features Modibodi’s patented, super-thin modifier technology to absorb liquid, control odour, and keep the wearer dry.
The leakproof undergarment is made from 73% recycled nylon from pre-consumer fibres.
In response to the collaboration, C2Zero founder Dr Roger Cohen said he is impressed by Modibodi’s sustainability journey.
“Their Carbon Neutral Pant initiative is a clever way to reduce emissions and bring customers on a journey,” Dr Cohen said.
“At C2Zero, every Emissions Allowance we lock away is one tonne of emissions that won’t be released into the earth’s atmosphere by big polluters.
“It is through our partner’s support, including Modibodi, that we are able to accelerate action towards keeping temperature rises below 1.5 degrees.
The launch comes after Modibodi was acquired by Stockholm-based leakproof brand Essity for $140 million. Forde said that despite the acquisition, it is still business as usual for Modibodi.
“We continue to be the brand that pushes back on taboos, champions sustainability, and designs confidence-shaping, confidence-creating, life changing apparel.”
