Mimco has launched a small selection of wholesale accounts across regional Australia, following demand in online orders.

In conversation with Ragtrader, Mimco MD Sarah Rovis said the accounts are located in regional towns such as Wagga Wagga and Dubbo.

“We're excited to open into new channels,” Rovis said. “We have just launched very small baby steps into the world of wholesale with a couple of accounts to start with.”

Mimco’s current channel mix include 58 boutiques, eight edits (small-format pop-ups), 41 concession stores in David Jones and online through its website and The Iconic.

Rovis confirmed this is the brand's first move into wholesale.

“Wholesale for us is about opening us up to new markets, new geographies, even regional areas where we would never open a boutique. There are lots of regional places that love our brand and we can see that through where people buy us online and where we ship to.

"In a lot of local regional areas, there's the local retailer that knows his or her local community really well. To be able to be present with a small edited range, and offer our brand there, just gets more eyes.”

Rovis said the move could also be a launching pad for international wholesale growth, with strong markets currently including the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.

“If we can get this wholesale up and running, and if it’s successful, that then gives us another platform to go international as well. We can see where our customers are and where we ship internationally. It gives us that opportunity to go further afield and grow the business.”
