Australian-born fashion brand McIntyre Merino has opened its first Sydney flagship in Paddington. It joins the brand’s other newly opened store in Emporium Melbourne this year.
Founders Ned Schofield and Raquel Boedo said the Paddington boutique will house the brand’s latest collection of merino wool garments such as knit dresses alongside accessories.
“We’re enjoying being part of the Paddington high street,” Schofield said. “It was the birth of Australian designers with Jenny Kee in the 70s with her vibrant colours and bold knits.
“Paddington high street contributed to the concept of Australian fashion identity and we’re excited to be a part of it. We hope to share our passion for merino wool’s versatility and sustainability with Sydney’s fashion set.”
The brand is currently stocked on The Iconic and David Jones, as well as through its own online store. It also operates various wholesale accounts in boutiques across Australia.
The physical growth comes after the brand tested the market with a physical pop-up in Melbourne CBD late last year.
Schofield said the move was intended to evaluate the potential of a new store. He said company sales had been up and down throughout 2022.
“Online has been trending down slightly, which is partly due to the rising costs of advertising, and we think consumers are also looking for an experience when purchasing,” Schofield said.
“Despite the challenges, we have achieved double-digit growth in 2022.”
