Bassike co-founder Mary Lou Ryan has stepped away from her business after eighteen years.

Ryan confirmed the news on social media, saying that the co-founding of Bassike has been a major chapter in her life.

“After eighteen years I have decided to step out of the business to pursue other creative and meaningful endeavours,” she said.

“The simplest idea to reinvent a ‘basic’ white tee-shirt became a wonderful business marked by creativity, purpose and collaboration.

“Reflecting on my time at Bassike, I have sincere gratitude for the team, collaborators, suppliers, garment makers and loyal customers.”

The company has also released a statement, sharing that Sams and Ryan have built and scaled a formidable business in the fashion lifestyle space.

"The entire Bassike team is grateful to Mary Lou for her valuable contributions to the brand over 18 years and wish her success in the next stage of her career," the company shared.

"Deborah Sams remains as co-founder and creative director with CEO Billy Voss continuing to direct business and growth. Together with their leadership team, they are committed to Bassike’s creative vision, purpose and energised brand evolution."

Ryan is not the first fashion co-founder to step away from their respective business this year, with Claire Greaves stepping down from the helm of P.E Nation in March. Greaves still holds a directorship with the brand, and has since launched a beauty label alongside Australian celebrity influencer Celeste Barber.

Bassike operates eight stores nationally, alongside a range of stockists including David Jones and The Iconic.
