Australian-born activewear brand LSKD has opened its first-ever store in New Zealand.
The new store, located in Takapuna north of Auckland city, is LSKD’s second international store outside Australia, with another in San Diego, California.
In Australia, the activewear brand has 15 stores across Australia’s east coast.
"My father was born and raised in Wellington, and much of my extended family still lives here. New Zealand has always felt like a second home to me," LSKD founder Jason Daniel said.
"We’re incredibly thrilled to bring LSKD to this vibrant, active community and to see Kiwis experience our brand in a whole new way."
The new store opened on November 30 last weekend, with the opening coinciding with the Takapuna Christmas Carnival.
Just over 700 customers lined up before the doors opened on opening day, making it the brand’s largest store launch and biggest sales day to date.
LSKD’s journey began when Daniel, an avid BMX freestyle and Motocross rider, was nicknamed "Loose Kid" by his friends What started with t-shirts and stickers sold trackside has grown into a global activewear brand, with sales surpassing $100 million and an expanding retail footprint.
According to LSKD, its New Zealand retail store comes as online sales in the country hit $10 million.
"We know there’s demand here, and opening a physical store gives people the chance to touch, feel, and try on the apparel, something online can’t fully replicate,” Daniel said. “Retail is rebounding in New Zealand, and we’re stoked to be part of that recovery.
“The company plans to continue its expansion, with ten more stores planned for New Zealand next year, starting with Auckland, Christchurch, and Mount Maunganui.
The brand has already partnered with local athletes across various disciplines and is looking to expand these partnerships across New Zealand.
LSKD also continued its tights and shorts swap initiative, similar to other recent store openings in Australia, with the first 600 visitors taking part in the swap. The brand also offered exclusive deals, including limited-edition local products such as Auckland-themed tees and hoodies.
