Gorman founder and creative director Lisa Gorman has decided to step down from her role at her namesake label.
After 22 years of working in the label since its establishment in 1999, Gorman departs the label to pursue other creative endeavours.
"It is with some emotion, and a lot of gratitude, that I will be leaving my position as creative director of the Gorman brand," Lisa Gorman said in a statement.
"The Gorman label has achieved a level of recognition within the Australian fashion landscape that I could not have imagined when I started out in 1999.
"I thank those that made it happen.
"My incredible design team, all my staff, partners and the 114 artists I have had the pleasure of collaborating with over two decades.
"Most of all I thank my loyal customers who have supported the label from its ‘fishing pants’ beginnings.
"This chapter has now closed for me personally, making way for new creative endeavours.
"For those continuing the label into the future, I wish you all the very best and I have no doubt you will continue to bring the beauty of colour and print into the world of our customer," she said.
Gorman will continue to operate with the existing creative team, under Factory X's ownership.
"Lisa joined the Factory X team 12 years ago bringing the Gorman brand to the business," Factory X MD David Heeney said.
"We would like to thank her for her enormous contribution over the many years in building up the Gorman label.
"We wish Lisa all the very best for the future and we thank her for her contribution.
"It has been a great 12 years working with Lisa and she will be sorely missed by myself and the whole team," he said.
Under Gorman's leadership and creative design, the brand grew from its debut eight piece unisex collection to a fully fledged fashion label that was being stocked in 55 Australian retailers and 15 retailers in Japan by 2003.
A year later in 2004, the first Gorman boutique opened on Chapel Street in Prahran.
Now in 2021, Gorman has 40 stores across Australia, five stores in New Zealand and also operates an online store.
