Lee Mathews has launched its first-ever, limited-edition denim capsule.

The label is the latest in a string of designer brands, including Ginger & Smart, Institchu and M.J Bale, to introduce more casualised pieces following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lee Mathews' new denim capsule comprises 100% Japanese denim pieces including a shirt-jacket, classic leg jeans in blue and neutral and tote and crossbody bags.

"The Japanese Denim Classic Jean is universally flattering and designed for a streamlined, comfortable fit," Lee Mathews said in a statement.

"Pre-washed for softness with a slight stretch for ease of wear, these jeans have a softness and lived-in feel from the first wear.

"Meanwhile, the Japanese Denim Shirt Jacket is designed to be worn as a shirt or jacket and features a pointed collar and traditional denim detailing in a mid-blue indigo colourway," the brand said.

The capsule has been created using a rope dyeing technique, whereby the yarns are twisted into a rope that is quicky dipped into indigo baths.

This method is considered to be one of the best ways to dye denim, as the short dyeing time does not allow the indigo to fully penetrate the fibres, creating ring-dyed yarn that fades better and faster than fully dyed yarn.

The Lee Mathews denim capsule collection is available now and retails for between $149 and $399.
