Kmart will expand its app to the New Zealand market, six months after its launch in Australia.
The app has secured 50,000 downloads via Google Play and is currently holds 12th posiition in Shopping on the App store.
Speaking with Ragtrader, a member of the Kmart team said the initial build took a few months.
“One of our focus areas for us at Kmart is integrating the instore and online experiences and the app is a great way to enable this for our customers. The app provides a great example of a digital connection as it has the ability to scan a barcode.
“This is a handy tool which can either be used to easily browse your favourite items from home or scan a shelf label in store to price check, add to your wishlist or purchase on the spot to have your products home delivered.
“The app can also be a great alternative if an in store scanner is not nearby.”
The journey towards the initial launch of the new app started with its customers, the Kmart spokesperson said.
“We engaged with several of our valued customers through a variety of forums to understand the features that would deliver them the most value. With clarity on priorities, we then assembled a team from across the organisation to deliver the initial roadmap.”
Following the initial launch of the app, the spokesperson said they quickly added additional functions such as a wishlist and a logged in experience based on initial customer insights.
The Kmart app also allows users to see if items are available in the their local store, and to browse catalogues through the user's smartphone.
“We are always looking for ways to make our customers shopping experience even easier whether in store or online. Next year we will have some exciting new features that will enhance our customers experience in store.”
