Australian resortwear label Kate Ford has collaborated with Melbourne-based artist Laura Thomas to create its Spring/Summer 23 collection called ‘Pallas’.
Designer Kate Ford said the new range combines Ancient Greece with resortwear, which began with Ford reaching out to Thomas. She said the pair collaborated over Zoom, discussing elements of the range, which were then designed by Ford to match Thomas’ art style.
Over the course of two weeks, Thomas was submitting painted elements to Ford to approve and provide to her in-house graphic designers.
“It was lovely and very easy working with Laura on this collaboration, and we both gained a lot of insight into each other's way of artistic style,” Ford said. “It's great to collaborate with talented Australian artists to reach a new audience and for artists to be able to see their work come to life and be worn by the consumer.”
All designs in the collaboration are either 100% ramie or 100% linen, making up four pieces - two dresses, a tee, and shorts - with price points between $350 and $595. It will be sold online and at select boutiques nationally and globally.
Kate Ford was established in Australia in 2021.
