It’s had a rough ride but this item is officially a fashion item – and WGSN INstock statistics prove there’s huge consumer demand for it. WGSN Senior Editor Sara McCorquodale reports.

If WGSN INstock data is anything to go by (and it’s a pretty amazing indicator of what’s happening in retail now) perceptions of the poncho have changed.

Big time.

In fact, consumers in the US now find the poncho such a desirable item, it accounted for 27% growth in knitwear for Nordstrom and 55% for Bloomingdale’s in September.

Why? This is now a trend-led piece thanks to new interpretations by high profile, influential designers including Burberry, Osman, Gucci and Emilia Wickstead for both this season and Spring/Summer 2016.
