Australian fashion publication InStyle Australia is set to relaunch in the Australia and New Zealand markets, after its rights were acquired by independent publisher True North Media earlier this year.

The relaunch comes after the magazine was shuttered by Are Media (then Bauer Media) - alongside seven other titles - in 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19 on the advertising market.

InStyle was among fellow fashion titles Harper's Bazaar and Elle to be closed by the media giant during the first year of the pandemic.

InStyle is the last of the three to relaunch in the market, following Harper's Bazaar's comeback under US publishing house Hearst Magazine International and local media company Switzer Media & Publishing and Are Media's relaunch of Elle as a pureplay digital brand.

Under its new owners, InStyle will be published in a digital-first format encompassing online, live events and branded content with plans in the works to publish biannual print editions.

It will be helmed by award-winning editor-in-chief and True North Media chief content officer Justine Cullen (pictured) and True North Media publisher and CEO Simon Bookallil.

"We are excited to relaunch a title that has seen significant digital growth in key markets across the world," Bookallil said.

"As a global, trusted brand, the time is right to bring InStyle back to Australia and New Zealand.

"Under Justine's direction, we will see a robust digital offering, engaging events and experiences, and introduce a new generation of audience to the InStyle masthead," he said.

InStyle is the first launch for True North Media, which will lead the marketing, sales, and commercial strategy.

Cullen said the brand will bring a new experience to its readers.

"Our offering will uniquely combine the immersive nature of print with the agility of a website purpose-built for dynamic fashion and beauty content.

"It’s a new model of publishing that gives rise to lots of fresh and exciting ways to speak to our audience and work with our partners," she said.

The magazine's first issue is set for release on April 15, 2022.
