Accent Group subsidiary Hype DC has teamed up with US-born sneaker giant New Balance to launch a limited new sneaker to be sold exclusively in Australia and New Zealand.
The sneaker is a new colourway of the core New Balance 2002R style, called Native Dynamics. According to both Hype DC and New Balance, the colourway marks an ongoing relationship between the two brands.
The Native Dynamics 2002R will be available in Hype DC stores in Australia and New Zealand and online, as well as in an exclusive pop-up hosted by Hype DC in Armadale, Melbourne that will only house the one-off sneaker. The pop-up opens today and closes on Sunday, October 22.
Hype DC head of product Michael Harag said the limited product launch marks the retailer's 25th birthday.
“New Balance has been a trailblazer of setting trends and driving premium product to our customers for 25 years, we felt they were the perfect brand to celebrate our milestone birthday,” Harag said. “Our customers have had a long-standing love affair with New Balance, so it made total sense to us.”
“When we first started concepting the idea of a special colourway sneaker to celebrate this milestone, we really wanted something that would have broad appeal and that could speak to our heritage but also point to our future. The New Balance 2002R does exactly that; it’s a heritage style reborn for today and appeals to men, women and kids of all ages.”
New Balance APAC merchandise manager Ryan Jones said the 2002R is one of most in-demand models for the global sneaker brand.
“Within the sneaker world, the 2000’s running trend is well and truly alive and the 2002R speaks directly to that in both the style and the vis tech N-ergy sole unit,” Jones said.
The New Balance Native Dynamics 2002R has an RRP of $250AUD or $270NZD.
