Australians have spent more than $6.6 billion with international retailers over the past 12 months according to research conducted by ING.

The report also found that 70% of Australians had shopped at an international online retail site in the past 12 months with an average spend of $492.77 each.

The new research comes days after Australia Post released their Inside Australian Online Shopping report that showed Australians had spent $21.3 billion in online purchases last year.

According to a survey conducted by the group, the main driver for Australian customers shopping from an international retailer was cheaper product according to 61% of respondents.

The report suggested that customers are also returning to international retailers with data suggesting that Australians are, on average, making a number of purchases online over the past 12 months.

“More Aussies are opting for online shopping, particularly overseas. 13.5 million Australians have shopped at online international retail sites in the past twelve months.

“Among those who have shopped online internationally, the average number of purchases in the last twelve months is 5.6 purchases.”

“16% of Australians say they have made ten or more purchases from international retailers online"
