Iconic Australian retailer Harris Scarfe has confirmed details surrounding the appointment of an ex-Myer executive to its helm.

The retailer, owned by South African retail giant Pepkor (also parent company of Best & Less), revealed it has poached former Myer senior executive Graham Dean as CEO.

Dean has previously worked as Myer’s group general manager home, entertainment and head of supply chain and will begin his role at Harris Scarfe from September 1.

Dean replaces incumbent leader Joe Barberis, who is understood to have moved on to a position as commercial director at Pepkor South East Asia.

The new leadership at Harris Scarfe is expected to spearhead a fresh growth phase for the mid-market department store chain.

Harris Scarfe currently operates 52 stores Australia-wide and has confirmed ambitious plans for store growth over the coming years.

New full-line stores will open at Hervey Bay, on the August 1, and Carindale (QLD), Colonnades (SA) and Elizabeth (SA) later this year.

Pepkor South East Asia managing director Jason Murray said the company welcomes Dean to the fold.

“We are delighted that Graham has agreed to join our company and expect that his extensive experience and strong leadership qualities will be of great benefit to Harris Scarfe,” Murray said.
