Department store Harris Scarfe has been awarded 'silver' at the Melbourne Design Awards and Summit in the graphic design - environmental category.

The retailer partnered with design specialist Best. Design to Life to collaborate on creating a new concept and design featured in its relaunched store in Southland, Melbourne.

The design has now rolled out to 10 Harris Scarfe stores with further transformations to unfold over the coming months.

Harris Scarfe GM of marketing Simon Burrett said that following a strategic review and audit of the store's layout and performance, the new concept will enhance the retailer's offering.

“This is a worthy reward for the Harris Scarfe team in delivering our strategic plan to build a better department store that is specifically designed for our customer.”

“Our approach to revisiting the retail concept has focused very much on the customer.

"We know they want to explore a bright, light and open layout.

"They want to be able to identify departments easily, and they love discovering our huge range of great brands.”

Burrett also said that expansion for Harris Scarfe is on the cards.

“While many department stores and competitors are shrinking or rationalising their offer, we are investing in improvements and growing the store network.

"We have a terrific team that works tirelessly to deliver on our strategy and service to our customers, and it is their drive and determination that is recognised with this award win."
