US publishing house Hearst Magazine International is relaunching Harper’s Bazaar Australia in partnership with local media company Switzer Media & Publishing.

The revival of the fashion magazine, which comes a year after it was shut by Are Media, will begin with a collector’s edition in September and will be printed monthly.

Switzer Media & Publishing, a Sydney and Melbourne-based media company, will lead sales, marketing, and brand strategy for Harper’s Bazaar Australia, which will be overseen by publisher Maureen Jordan.

"To be appointed publisher of this 154-year-old iconic fashion bible is a great honour," Jordan said.

"Bazaar has been missed by its loyal following in Australia in recent times and not only are we excited about its relaunch, we are passionate about collaborating with Hearst Magazines as we understand and redefine our readers’ expectations."

Harper's Bazaar Australia was first published in 1998.

In July last year, Are Media, then known as Bauer Media, announced it was shutting the title along with seven other magazines as a result of the pandemic’s impact on advertising revenue.

To develop the revived magazine, Jordan is hiring a number of key creative positions, including an editor-in-chief of the brand.

"We could not be more excited to have Harper’s Bazaar re-enter the Australian market with such an esteemed publisher, Switzer Media & Publishing," Hearst Magazines International senior vice president, editorial and brand director Kim St. Clair Bodden said.

"This alliance, headed by Maureen Jordan, underscores our desire and commitment to return this venerable brand to new heights of acclaim."
