Online designer fashion rental business GlamCorner has partnered with Australian Red Cross.
The partnership is part of an Earth Month clothing donation drive, aimed at educating consumers about ways they can help to reduce fashion waste.
During Earth Month, participants can donate pre-loved clothing to Red Cross via GlamCorner’s nationwide return-delivery network.
The partnership will run from April 16 to May 16.
GlamCorner customers can use the prepaid Australia Post return satchels that are provided with every single order to donate any pre-loved clothing items and accessories.
These satchels can be placed into any Australia Post postb ox and sent to GlamCorner for processing where they will then be sorted and donated to Red Cross.
All items donated during this clothing donation drive will be inspected by Red Cross to be sold in one of their 160 + Red Cross Shops around Australia.
All funds raised from this partnership will go towards supporting the everyday work of Red Cross.
GlamCorner co-founderAudrey Khaing-Jones said the initiative is in line with company goals.
“We’re so excited to be partnering withsuch a highly-regarded organisation to drive awareness of an issue that is very close to our heart as a company. Our shared goal of helping to reduce clothing waste made this a very natural partnership to establish.”
Australians discard 23 kilograms of clothing per capita every year and this results in six tonnes of textiles and clothing contributed tola ndfills in Australia every 10 minutes.
With recent changes to Chinese laws resulting in a billion kilograms of recycled materials needing to be reallocated elsewhere, Australia is facing a new era of how to manage and reduce textile waste.
Globally, the fashion industry is the second largest polluting industry after the oil and gas industry and contributes 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon towardgreenhouse gas emissions every year.
This is an amount larger than that of international flights and shipping combined.
