eBay Australia has revealed to Ragtrader that the first pair of sneakers purchased through its sneaker Authenticity Guarantee was a pair of Yeezy Boost 380 Mists.
According to the eTailer, the authentication program has resonated well with Australian consumers, with tens of thousands of sneakerheads purchasing a verified pair of kicks through the site.
Globally, more than 1.5 million sneakers have been authenticated through the Authenticity Guarantee.
eBay Australia head of luxury and consumer selling Brooke Eichhorn said the program has been embraced by Aussies.
"Authenticity Guarantee has been well received by the thriving sneaker community in Australia.
"We know that sneakerheads want peace of mind when shopping for sneakers and Authenticity Guarantee does just that," she said.
Since its launch, eBay has expanded the program to include a wider range of brands and youth sizes.
Eichhorn added that eBay’s acquisition of Sneaker Con – the operators of the Authenticity Guarantee program – has not changed operations locally.
"We were excited to expand eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee and bring the Sneaker Con Digital team in as part of our global authentication program.
"We’ve been partnered with Sneaker Con for more than a year globally, so the acquisition was a continuation of our existing agreement.
"Our operations are business as usual,” she said.
