Melbourne-based fashion retailer Design A Space will close next month, citing an “extremely challenging” three years.

“We have fought hard to keep the stores alive however, with the rise of costs in every aspect of our business it is no longer profitable to remain open,” founders Bec and Chris Lutz wrote in a Facebook post.

“The last three years have been extremely challenging for us as well as our incredible designers and with the current financial climate, it is proving very difficult.

“We know so many of you have put your support behind Design A Space and for this, we are very grateful.”

The Fitzroy and Melbourne CBD stores will both close on July 15.

Design A Space stocks more than 170 Australian brands across men’s, women’s and children’s fashion and accessories, homeware and artwork.

Despite having an online website, the brand operated wholly through its two brick-and-mortar stores.
