New Zealand accessories label Deadly Ponies is set to open its first bricks-and-mortar in Australia, on Armadale's High St.

The store will open later this week and will showcase the brand's collection of sustainable leather accessories.

Deadly Ponies creative director and co-founder Liam Bowden said the new store ties into the brand's New Zealand experiences but also experiments with new concepts.

"We've created an interior handwriting for our spaces, linking them together but also creating new developments for each store that we introduce," he said.

"We've added elements such as our Gouda ceramics or Murano glass in our New Zealand stores.

"For our Armadale store we've explored the contrast and movement between soft furnishings, oak and metal, and are really excited to see that come to life.

"Experimenting with movement within the space, capturing the light reflected off each surface - is something the brand hasn’t explored before.

"The store has a very modern and architectural feel, yet still makes reference to traditional elements synonymous with the Deadly Ponies experience," he said.

Using natural materials aligns closely with the brand’s affinity for ethically-sourced and conscious materials, having opened its own purpose-built eco-atelier in early 2020.

Owning the eco-atelier ensures total oversight of the brand's manufacturing and supply chain for an eco-friendly, considered impact.

In addition to the natural finishes of the store, the space features collectors' items and art pieces, displayed on wood-turned plinths.

"For example, we have a Paul Evan's lamp from 1970's Berlin," Bowden added.

"We have also celebrated the work of Indigenous Australian artist Alec Pula Lewis, along with other local crafts and curiosities," he said.

The Melbourne Deadly Ponies store will open on August 04 at 1071 High St Armadale.
