Australian rental platform The Volte has teamed up with David Jones to offer the department store’s online customers an opportunity to rent out fashion items.

The peer-to-peer marketplace has designed a widget for the David Jones website, allowing customers to seamlessly list their product on The Volte during checkout, ready to lend in the future.

The widget will roll-over the style name, description, sizing and imagery of the product to The Volte platform.

“Fashion is one of the largest global economies, but with its scale comes challenges like supply chain impact, overproduction, and wastage,” The Volte chief brand and strategy officer Kellie Hush said.

“As an industry, from businesses to consumers, we must make conscious decisions to drive positive change. Our data shows that Australian fashion consumers are sophisticated – they still buy, but they also rent, rent out, and buy again.

“We’re proud to offer consumers a seamlessly integrated shopping experience with David Jones, with the opportunity to monetise your wardrobe and to also to engage and commit to a more circular future of fashion.”

The Volte was founded in 2018 in Perth, Australia by Bernadette Olivier, Kym Atkins, Genevieve Hohnen, and Jade Hirniak.

The brand lists designer outfits from the likes of Sir, Zimmermann, Rebecca Vallance, and Bec & Bridge, alongside international labels such as House of CB, Rat & Boa, Odd Muse, and Paris Georgia.

Some of the more in-demand labels on The Volte include Australian labels such as Camilla & Marc, Alemais and Aje (pictured).

“At David Jones, we’re thrilled to offer our customers an exciting new way to engage with fashion,” executive GM of womenswear, footwear and accessories Bridget Veals said.

“Our partnership with The Volte is all about empowering customers to reinvest in their favourite pieces, breathe new life into their wardrobes, and make smarter, more sustainable choices.

“This collaboration opens up a world of possibilities—giving customers the chance to not only wear, but also rent out iconic pieces like an Aje dress.

“By working with an industry leader like The Volte, we’re bringing circular fashion to the forefront, making it easier and more rewarding than ever to embrace sustainability and elevate your style.”

The new widget is available for Australian customers only.
