Department store chain David Jones has signed on 50 new and exclusive brands to its portfolio.
The incoming line-up in womenswear include Sporty & Rich, TOVE, Pixie Market, Nagnata, AJE Athletica, Odd Muse, and The Curated. Brands such as Aupen, Loewe, Diesel, Repetto and Frankie4 will join the footwear and accessories category. While the menswear department will welcome styles from Patagonia, Frame Denim, Belstaff, Maison Kitsuné, and designer footwear from Stuart Weitzman and Santoni.
The department store marked the move with an official launch of its Autumn-Winter 2024 season collections in Sydney. The evening – titled Autumn, Winter & Beyond – included a dinner and presentation with over 100 guests attending.
It was creatively directed by artist Amanda Shadforth and featured pieces from local and international designers such as Maticevski, Michael Lo Sordo, Aje, Alemais, Anna Quan, Bianca Spender, Camilla & Marc, Rabanne and Victoria Beckham.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the arrival of Autumn-Winter at David Jones with an immersive experience that is really like no other, showcasing the pieces that will shape the season ahead and sharing the table for an evening with our beloved designers, brand partners, and friends,” David Jones GM of womenswear, footwear and accessories, Bridget Veals said.
On the trends for Autumn-Winter, Veals said she is seeing designers embrace understated pieces that last.
“Minimalism is very much the mood this season, with refined tailoring, monochromatic colour palettes, sleek slip styles, and denim taking over,” Veals said. “Tailored separates were in almost every collection, alongside tonal dressing with the occasional pops of red and floral dresses.
“Understated luxury has come through as another key trend, putting a focus on wardrobe staples and sleek evening wear. We're also seeing a shift towards comfort in footwear this season, with many brands focusing on boots, loafers, lower-heeled pumps and flats.”
Chris Wilson, the GM of menswear, kids, home, AV and food at David Jones, said the forecast for menswear is similar, as collections prioritise practicality, versatility and longevity.
“We have loved seeing how wearable runway fashion this season has been and are excited to see this come to life in-store and online,” Wilson said.
“This season will see menswear return to the fundamentals, with a revived take on our wardrobe classics, from sports jackets to the statement shirt, and the emergence of a new formality and femininity in our suiting.
“We will also see a tasteful combination of the quiet luxury trend mixed with more experimental designs, setting the stage for a balance of subtlety and boldness.”
