Thread Together and David Jones have restarted their partnership, with the department store continuing its product donations to the charity organisation as well as offering volunteer opportunities across its workforce.
Donations by David Jones to Thread Together are expected to reach approximately $2 million annually in value.
Thread Together collects end-of-line brand new stock from fashion retailers around the country, which are then distributed to those in need, including those affected by natural disasters and life challenges.
As well as scaling its annual product donation cycle, the pair will also manage aged inventory for disaster forecasting and promote circular solutions for store fixtures.
Additionally, the partnership focuses on education, volunteer opportunities, and workplace giving. Later this week, a select group of David Jones head office staff will head to Thread Together’s warehouse in Banksmeadow to help pack and distribute its recent donations.
David Jones CMO James Holloman said the group includes CEO Scott Fyfe and some of its general managers.
“The David Jones donation actually arrived today (May 15) to their warehouse, but we've been donating for the past three or four years,” Holloman said.
“We've been donating significant pallet-loads of clothes - everything from socks and underwear and lingerie all the way through to jackets, dresses and shoes.”
David Jones GM of womenswear, footwear and accessories Bridget Veals said the recent renewal comes as Thread Together rolled out new weather mapping technology to plan future donation drops.
“As an Australian retailer, we are acutely aware of the impact floods and bushfires have on local communities,” Veals said. “We know that as the climate continues to change, more people will either be directly impacted or know friends or family who have lost everything.
“I’m honoured to announce our renewed partnership with Thread Together, a collaboration that underscores our commitment to supporting Australians, particularly during times of crisis. At David Jones, we understand the power of clothing beyond fashion. It's about dignity, resilience, and the ability to rebuild lives."
Thread Together CEO Anthony Chesler said the partnership marks a significant step forward in its mission to support communities in need.
“By combining our efforts with David Jones, we are poised to make a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by natural disasters,” Chesler said. “Together, we can create positive change and foster resilience in the face of adversity."
