Australian department store David Jones has launched its first-ever mobile app, expanding its omnichannel touchpoints.
Available for both iOS and Android devices, the new app marks a significant milestone in the brand’s tech transformation that will see $65 million invested over the next three years. This follows the retailer’s venture into the retail media space in late 2023.
The new app was developed in conjunction with global software engineering consultancy Mindera. According to David Jones, its new mobile pp will be powered by extensive customer research and will have accessibility front-of-mind. The app will include push notifications, a dynamic homepage and a user-friendly interface.
Planned future enhancements include personalised wishlist notifications, product recommendations, express checkout, native live chat and loyalty program integration when David Jones Rewards relaunches in mid-2025.
David Jones CEO Scott Fyfe said innovation has been the hallmark of the company's success since its inception in 1838.
"As we deliver our Vision 2025+ strategy, our focus is on innovation and updating our platforms, offerings, and experiences to service a modern customer into the future.
“We know that 70 per cent of our online traffic comes from a mobile device and we will continue to innovate the mobile app with the aim to double the size of our online business in the next three years."
Mindera MD of Australia David Furletti welcomed the partnership with David Jones.
"Our partnership brings together two businesses that share a passion for the customer and innovation," Furletti said.
David Jones has over 40 stores across Australia and New Zealand.
