David Jones has appointed Clint May as its new CFO, replacing outgoing Kathy Karabatsas who has resigned.

May will join the company from October 2, 2023. He is currently the group CFO of Spotlight Holdings Group, and a board member and non-executive board member of several subsidiary holdings.

Spotlight Group has a diverse set of businesses across Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and includes brands such as Spotlight, Anaconda and Harris Scarfe.

May has taken on senior roles and projects across retail, pharmaceutical, automotive, environmental, and mining industries. He led the acquisition and integration of the Harris Scarfe business for the Spotlight Group.

Karabatsas will depart on July 28 after two years in the role. According to David Jones, she helped stabilise the business for future growth amid company transformations, including the ownership transition to Anchorage Capital Partners earlier this year.

David Jones CEO Scott Fyfe thanked Karabatsas for her contribution to the company.

“We have been so fortunate to benefit from her transformational experience and strong technical expertise, which have delivered proven results to our business – setting us in great stead for the future,” Fyfe said. “We wish Kathy all the best for her future endeavours.”

Fyfe said May’s long career history makes him a strategic fit for the department store.

“In his role as Spotlight Group CFO, Clint manages the Group’s finances across its investments in a diverse set of businesses,” Fyfe said. “We are thrilled to have Clint coming on board and are looking forward to benefiting from his commercial expertise as David Jones cements its position as Australia’s leading omnichannel retailer.”
