Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is set to announce changes to the way businesses operate in metro Melbourne, following the State's introduction of stricter COVID restrictions.

Yesterday, Victoria entered a State of Disaster, with Melbourne entering Stage Four restrictions last night and regional Victoria set to enter Stage Three restrictions on Wednesday 05 August at 11.59pm.

Those in Melbourne now have a curfew between 8pm and 5am every night and are only allowed within 5km of their house to shop for essential items and exercise.

Only one person, per household, per day is allowed to leave to do the shopping, with mask wearing remaining mandatory.

From Wednesday 11.59pm, regional Victoria will move to Stage Three restrictions which only permits people to leave their house, while wearing a mask, for four reasons: shopping for food and essential items, care and caregiving, daily exercise and work and study – if unable to be carried out at home.

However, Daniel Andrews has flagged that he will be announcing changes to the way businesses operate in Melbourne.

"We recognise that workplaces continue to be the site of many of our cases," the Premier said in a statement.

"I’ve made some announcements that change how Victorians will live – I’ll have more to say about the way Victorians need to work.

"I know that will cause a certain level of anxiety and uncertainty.

"But the truth is, this is complex – and we’re going to take some extra time to make sure we get these calls right," he said.

Melbourne's Stage Four and regional Victoria's Stage Three restrictions will be in place for at least the next six weeks until Sunday 13 September.

Ragtrader will keep its readers up-to-date on the changes to businesses as they come to hand.
