Cotton On has partnered with Universal Music Australia to launch an ongoing program that supports emerging Australian artists.

The pair have introduced the Co-Opt Club, a space for local artists to showcase original artwork through fashion, in collaboration with Cotton On’s in-house product designers.

For the first Co-Opt Club collection, Cotton On has collaborated with First Nations artists Tylah Saunders and Bianca Simpson on a capsule of 31 pieces across womenswear and menswear.

Inspired by the ocean, waterways and coastal landscapes where he grew up in South Australia, the art of Gunditijmara artist Tylah Saunders represents his connection to self, culture and home.

The work of proud Punmu artist, Bianca Simpson, is filled with colour and emotion, inspired by Punmu and its waterholes.

“I'm so excited by this initiative that celebrates emerging Australian creative artists, cultivating a hub that fosters creative expression and which exports our unique culture to the rest of the world,” Cotton On Brands managing director Bianca Ginns said.

“This Cotton On x Co-Opt Club collection showcases the original artwork created by the program artists, in collaboration with our in-house product designers. Our same great quality and most-loved fits, elevated by inspiring and original artwork.”

Cotton On and the Co-Opt Club have worked closely with the Copyright Agency to ensure best practices are followed when collaborating with visual artists. Visual arts business development manager Arlette Martin said Cotton On had ensured the artists were fully involved in every step of the project.

“This collaboration was built on a foundation of respect and transparency, with ample time given to the artists for design consideration and the approval proces,” Martin said.

The Cotton On x Co-Opt Club collection is now selling on the Cotton On website and in stores globally, with adults sizes from 2XS to 2XL. Both Saunders and Simpson created an additional Cotton On Foundation Tote. All proceeds from the Cotton On Foundation are shared towards youth project.  to global projects that empower youth to thrive.
